What will you learn!

Learn to play drum beats with fills.

Learn to perform in accompaniment while keeping the beat.

Learn the key differences in styles between rock and pop drumming.

Create your own drum parts.

This course will also function as a foundation for all drum, percussion and other similar courses in the future.

Duration: 8 weeks, 2 sessions per week. Each session will be 1 hr.

Pre-requisites –

Age 12+ Must own a drum kit (if attending sessions online).

What Your Will Learn:

Technical
  • Performance Skills – Confidently perform a song at 60 bpm.
  • Theory Notions – Identify notes in rhythmic notation and recognise the pulse of a given track.
  • Ear Training Skills – Identify drum parts by ear.
  • Rhythm Training Skills – Read rhythm notation efficiently and demonstrate an understanding between swing and straight feel.
Personal
  • Problem Solving – Consciously select the most appropriate beat to perform by listening to the other band components.
  • Intrapersonal – Develop a penchant for patience in learning. Learning the need to prioritise progress over perfection.
  • Interpersonal – Demonstrate a correct use of musical terminology in communication with the teacher as well as fellow musicians. Show ability to work with others in a group setting in the context of a Student Jam.
  • Historical – Demonstrate knowledge of the history of the drum set. Pursue a research on a drum master which must include stylistic breakdown and biography.
