Introduction to Jazz Bass

Batch Size: Maximum six students

Duration: 6 months

Learn the foundations of playing with others and in different styles by learning jazz bass

This course is taught online, but if there is enough interest to run a batch on campus – this can be arranged.

Meet aspiring bass players from India and the South Asian Subcontinent and learn together!

Many of the musicians who have graduated from this programme are session players in Delhi, Bombay, Kolkota and Bangalore.

Pre-requisites –

Must already have been playing bass for 6-12 months Be over the age of 15 Must be willing to attend every class!

Syllabus:

JB 101
  • Learn essential jazz “forms.”
  • Learn how to play over essential jazz repertoire.
  • How to play using “two feel” and “walking bass.”
  • Learn about playing at different tempos and situations.
JB 102
  • Learn essential fusion/latin styles
  • learn how to transcribe and learn bass solos
  • learn the foundations of soloing using triads
  • learn about more advanced jazz styles, such as rhythm changes
